We are a marketing communications/public relations company celebrating 10 years and would like to have an anniversary celebration. We don’t want to do the same old, same old, but want to offer our clients and potential clients an “experience.” Any ideas on how we can have a celebration that stands apart from the rest?

###

Jay’s Answer: Your anniversary isn’t really of interest to your clients – your results are. Why should they take their time to attend your party? How will you make the time not just “fun”, but ultimately continue to position yourself as the marketing communications/public relations company with vision/results?

How about taking your party on a private bus, and drive to locations of businesses that are #1 in their field and talk about them (especially if they’re your clients) from the perspective of their message and the top things your party-goers can learn about what they do right. End by taking the bus to a fun venue to allow them to relax, but also talk about the experience.

I’m in the process of setting up an online store directed towards men. Do men buy online for women and other people in their lives? In other words, who are the real online shoppers?
The premise was to have a site where men could purchase gifts. Many of the women I know do not feel the men in their lives purchase suitable gift items, and lack romance.

Jay’s Answer: Instead of directly selling the products, why not create a website that lets the visitor fill out a survey, produce a customized list of items (with referral links to the products to trusted merchants) based on your recommendations? It’ll allow you to focus your business on recommendations, and not stocking products and make money on each referral.

I am as Speech Therapist in the medical field (specifically adult rehabilitation). As such I don’t work with many intelligibility issues which is the main topic of the Speech Therapy slogans I’ve seen. I deal with patients post-stroke, dementia, high fall risk, etc. as part of a rehab team. Most of my interventions are related to cognition (memory, orientation, problem solving, etc) and swallowing.

I am looking for a slogan that incorporates what I do as a SLP rather than what is mostly seen in schools (i.e. stuttering, Autism, lisps). I have a couple of ideas that I’m not completely sold on: “Speech Therapy: More than R’s and S’s” and “Speech Therapy: The brain behind the Rehab Team”. I would like to incorporate the aspect of cognition as well as the rehabilitation team.

###

Jay’s Answer: Why not spell it out: Specializing in Post-Stroke, Dementia, and High-Fall Risk Patients. Being cute won’t help – you want to your target audience to immediately “get” what you’re offering.

If you want to include “rehab team”, consider: Your Special Rehab Team Specialist.

We are a non-profit organization that works to build unity among the community and animal care providers (primarily rescues, shelters). We offer consultative services for organizations including operations managements, procedures, adoptions marketing, and fund-raising. Additionally we offer memberships that include discounts on the consultative services as well as educational seminars, webinars, on-line peer networking and informational resources. We are animal health and welfare professionals that have recently run a shelter (much of the community knows us as this) and we are trying to transition into offering our expertise to other professionals while still reaching out to the community and encouraging responsible pet ownership, spay/neuter initiatives, adoptions over purchase, and enhancing the human-animal bond. We located in the D.C area, The Animal Protection League is our company name, our logo is the yin yang symbol with paw and hand, and we currently have Providing a bridge for the advancement of animal welfare through leadership, education, and advocacy.

###

Jay’s Answer: There are many Animal Protection Leagues around the country, but there doesn’t seem to be any common affiliation. To avoid confusion, you may wish to add “..of Washington, DC” to either your name or tagline.

“Providing a bridge for the advancement of animal welfare through leadership, education, and advocacy” is too wordy. Here are some ideas to bat around:

  • Supporting Animal Care Providers Since 2010
  • Animal Care Provider Consulting & Education Services

Hello, my name is Heidi, I am an artist. I’m looking for a name and tagline for my business. Currently, I paint with acrylics on canvas, mirrors, and other unique surfaces. (Usually on the canvas though.) I also have charcoal and oil pastel drawings. I make mosaic as well. Usually in picture frames to hang in windows or as orbs. (So basically, Altered art.) I sell what I make and also take custom orders. I usually paint in representational abstract style. I do custom paintings as well. Price range from $100 to $500 dollars.

The owner is a current Airline Pilot and he saves clients money in a hassle-free purchase process. The integrity of the pricing structure is flat-fee plus the auction price of the vehicle.
The customers of the service are primarily composed of three groups:

  1. Families that are dropping debt and new to strong cash/flow management and budgeting – Houston, Texas area.
  2. Airline Pilots.
  3. Friends and Family of the owner – Southeast USA

Current customers are driving a financed vehicle generally from a new car auto dealer/showroom. Most have never used this format of service but understand the potential savings of purchasing a vehicle from a commercial auto auction + service fee. Anticipate the average vehicle purchase price around $4000-$6000 but will fluctuate with the customer requests.

Small display ads in industry publications for pilots and might test radio for the 2nd group of ‘Budget Buyers.’ Internet Site and Programming focused for each group.

I have an idea for a new consumer product, but don’t know what to do first! Help!

###

Jay’s Answer: The key to turning your idea into a success is making sure that:

  1. there’s a need
  2. you can easily identify those with the need
  3. they are willing to pay you for the solution.

If you’ve done this homework, then everything else is straightforward: patents, prototypes, test marketing, and distribution.

These days creating prototypes is easier than ever. Start with cardboard and tape to work out the physical product’s look. When you’re ready, have someone create a prototype. These days, prototyping tools are inexpensive and quick – you can have a sample in a day or so.
