Looking For a Name For a Consulting Business

I am in the beginning stages of offering marketing services to the clients of the cpa firm I work for. Our company name includes the names of the “partners & company”. I am trying to find a clever and catchy name for my consulting business that markets to their small business clients. Any ideas?

  1. When starting your consulting business, this is possibly one of the first issues you will wrestle with. Coming up with consulting firm names can be a tricky proposition, and one that requires a lot of thought from you!

A popular choice is to name the practice after the principle consultant, and possibly add the term “and associates.” While this may seem like a good idea, you will find that clients might disregard any other employees or minority partners, and only want to deal with the lead consultant. Not ideal.

Of course, in the case where the individual dies, retires, or sells the company, a company named after an individual may not be able to be renamed!

  2. If your primary target audience consists of the current clients of the accounting firm, I don’t think you need or want a “clever and catchy” name for your marketing consulting service. These folks obviously think that “partners & company” communicates the right tone for their professional services provider, and you want to tap into that loyalty or brand image for your business.

Perhaps you should take a similar approach for your name: “Smith Marketing Associates,” for example, and then follow it with a tagline that hammers home the benefit they’ll realize when they hire you. Something like “Marketing tactics that work,” or “Generating new revenue profitably.”

That would seem to be better for this audience than the “clever and catchy” naming approach.
