Company Name Ideas

I’m starting a Renovation / Property Investment Company, and I need help with a couple name ideas. The name should not limit the company to just the above mentioned. But the main focus of the company will be property renovation / investing.

###

Jay’s Answer:  Why not create an “umbrella name” (something like XYZ Corporation), and have different names for each division (property management, renovation, etc.)? That will allow you to have better names that are more targeted to your prospective customers, rather than either creating a generic name (which doesn’t mean much) or a limited name (that you may soon outgrow).

Name For Handcrafted Jewelry

I have a jewelry supply business that is growing well. My youngest daughter (11) has her own beads and supplies and makes mostly bracelets that she sells at school by word of mouth.

She seems to make things that other teens/preteens like and will buy, and she has good business sense – she has her own pricing strategy and she doesn’t apologize for her pricing. If someone thinks she charges too much, than as far as she is concerned they are welcome to make their own or buy elsewhere. She takes “no” in stride and moves on.

I’ve told her that as long as she tracks the supplies she takes from me (to make my inventory tracking easier), that she can use my supplies. She wants her own Etsy and I’ve explained the costs involved, talked about how she’d have to consider those costs so that she may have to charge more for the same item online than offline. She’s never had to buy her own supplies, because when she gets gifts, they are always jewelry supplies! (And not from me!)

I’ve showed her around my site and let her know that while I’m willing to teach her how to list and set up her site, take good pictures, fulfill her orders, etc… that she has to be willing to learn and take on those responsibilities plus packing orders daily after school.

We also talked about who her online customers would be. There may be some teens browsing Etsy, but customers need a way to pay online, ie credit card, debit card, or PayPal. So she’ll have to focus her marketing towards adults who are buying for teens, which is different than what she is doing now.

My other daughter is 15. She also likes to make jewelry and wants to be part of it, but truthfully, she’s not the stick-to-it type like my younger daughter. I think that Emily being the backbone and Ashley helping when she takes an interest will be okay. Since neither are going to “invest” anything except time, they will profit from the items they make – if Emily makes it, its her money, if Ashley makes it, its hers as far as the sales go. If Ashley does end up committing more, that may change.

Emily’s initials are EKA and we’ve though EKA Designs. Etsy’s tough because so many are already taken.

If you have any thoughts, the girls would appreciate it! Something they can grow with and would still work if they “split” would be best.

Combining Company Names

I have the rights to two company names. Legacy Plumbing and Don Huckaby Plumbing(DHP). Don is my father and retired, I bought him out. DHP has been in business since the 1970’s, and has been all service and repair since 2003. I started Legacy in 2003 and have a large new construction business. I want to combine the two names. Huckaby’s Legacy Plumbing?

###

Jay’s Answer: I’m thinking that by combining the names you create more of a mouthful, and a name that may be harder to remember. I’d recommend that it would be better to gradually combine the two, but under the name that has a higher “stature” in your region. For the “other” name, you could say “A division of ….” – or keep the names separate to serve different markets.

Healthiness + Happiness Coach

I am a health coach ready my business,Most health coaches go by their name for the business, not sure if i want to do that, i would like a name that says what i do- help clients find health and happiness…

###

Jay’s Answer:  I’m guessing that most people that would hire you are facing a health problem, and want to get better. Are these people mostly overweight, or eating poorly, or in a chronic health “crisis”? How old are they generally? Men or women? Where would they be located (face-to-face coaching in what region)? And most importantly – why would they choose to work with you? What do you know that they’d be willing to pay you for?

Help Me Name My Coaching Business

I just started out, a change from being a teacher to a Coach. I  took on many Coaching Lessons, Life Coaching, Business Coaching , Self Esteem Coaching and the NLP Coaching.

Now, I am looking for a great Coaching Name, that will ATTRACT International Clients and will tell as tell them  I able to coach at all areas.  I need you to help me with: A good coaching name and a great tag line.

###

Jay’s Answer:  Congratulations on your change of career.

A name and tagline won’t perform the magic you’re hoping for. International clients don’t buy a name – they buy a promise of a unique benefit/value that you offer.

That means you need to deeply understand: who specifically might want to hire you, where they are located, why they’d choose you (and not choose any of your competition), what makes you different/special, and when they’d likely want your services. From the answers to these questions (and more) you can begin to not only craft a name and tagline, but also develop an entire marketing strategy to attract clients to you.

Name My Shadi Dance Business

Want a name and a suitable tagline for my new Event management business. We focus on mainly shadi dance, a.k.a, Geet, birthday parties, etc.

###

Jay’s Answer:  A name and tagline should be focused on your customers’ needs, not simply what you’re offering.

Are they looking for Shadi Dance events? Or, being entertained? Or, teaching a group of their friends how to dance? Or, building a workplace team? Or, preparing for a public performance? Who are your customers – their age, gender, fitness level, etc.? Why would they want to hire you (instead of one of your competitors)?

If you’re not sure about the answers to these questions – start by doing your homework now. Who will pay for what you’re planning to offer? When? Why?

Need A Tagline For A Documentary About Suicide

Hello, we just completed a documentary about suicide prevention and awareness called “No Face”, meaning suicide has no face, it affects all races, genders, social status. I would like a tagline that is poignant and reflects that this is a global crisis. Thanks so much.

###

Jay’s Answer: Since “No Face” doesn’t explain to the average person what your documentary is about, then I suggest that the tagline should make it clear. For example: “The Global Suicide Crisis Documentary”.

Tag Line For A New Yarn Store

I’m opening a new Yarn shop in Southern California (south Orange County) and its name is Yarn del Sol. I’m looking for a tagline. The store will offer a wide range of yarns of the upscale variety. We will feature a number of California yarns, ‘green’ yarns, specialty yarns (those that aren’t carried in SoCal, like lines from Australia, Tibet, etc) as well as the name brands that are expected in an upscale yarn shop. We will also be offering a full schedule of classes for all levels of knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers. There will be store events on a weekly basis – knit alongs, trunk shows, knitting & a movie nights, etc. The demographic of knitters & fiber junkies is changing. It’s not just your grandma who is knitting. We will be targeting kids, teens, young moms – you name it, with specific events, projects and teachers. A yarn store isn’t just a shop, it’s a place for friendships and community. If possible, I’d like a tag line that can communicate that. Thank you.

Senior Care Directory Tagline?

We have a senior care directory business where we sell advertising in the directory, as well as sell advertising space in brochure kiosks that are in various retail locations.  In addition, we offer personal consults/referrals for senior care.  The name of the business is Born to Age and we are looking for a tagline that would convey the message that we are a one stop resource for all your senior care needs.  Any ideas for something catchy that would appeal to the senior communities?

###

Jay’s Answer:  It sounds like you really have two businesses: one that sells advertising to seniors and another that helps seniors find care. While each of these businesses have something to do with seniors, the people who’d pay for your services are different. And different audiences mean different forms of marketing communication. They each have different needs. Therefore, a single tagline that spans both needs is likely not to be ineffective.

Also, you mentioned a desire for your message to convey “one stop resource for all your senior care needs”. This would seem at first blush to be a message only for your senior target audience, and not necessarily something that they’re looking for. Are they looking for convenience, excellence, appropriateness, etc.? These are all very different needs and would have different messages.
