Jay’s Answer:
I am starting a new brand of fashion jewelery..The brand is Sanskrithi…i am looking for a nice catchy tagline to attach to it…it should make girls feel beautiful.
###
Jay’s Answer: A tagline is more than a simple phrase to make someone feel something – it’s to help explain what your business can clearly do for your prospective customers. Since your brand name could mean you’re selling anything from jewelry to clothing to food products, your tagline needs to make it clear what you’re selling and to whom. For example, “Fashion Jewelry That’ll Make You Feel Beautiful”. That’s clearer, but is still quite vague, since that tagline can apply to ANY business that sells fashion jewelry. You’ll need to figure out a lot more details and then brainstorm how that matters.
How should I go about launching (/opening) of my women apparel store within a mall?
Brand name is Fairy’s – Tagline is ‘wear your magic’ (Location: Pakistan, South Asia)
The location of my store is such that the flow of people is very less in that area of the mall. Usually, brands higher some space in the mall, place a simple counter n shelves in there on the launching day to create brand awareness.I’m planning to do the same but I’m also thinking about involving the public and giving some incentives too. I’m not sure what can i do in terms of announcing incentives. I believe giving discounts on opening wouldn’t have a good impression on customers. So i was thinking to give discount in such a way they may not feel they’re given a discount instead announce a limited time opportunity as in ‘introductory price’. I also want do some activity, place a draw box and giveaway 5-6 dresses. A draw after every hour from 1pm-7pm.
What else should i do in the mall? draw coupons will help in gathering info on building potential customers list but what that activity would be for which they will fill the coupons? Any other innovative ideas?
All arrangements have been done; from branding to decoration. I’d be opening it any day next week. I have chalked down few launch ideas:
a) hiring a space in the mall, place few mannequins and lace a shelf to hang a few dresses there to display to create brand awareness and location of the store within the mall. (they have this lobby in the mall where such activities can take place)
b) distributing flyers at main entrance of the mall
c) as for pricing I’m not giving any discount but stating ‘introductory prices’ for the first week, term may suggest that the prices would increase after one week (and has built-in discount)
d) after they’ve made purchase, we can ask our customers if they would like to have a cup of tea, coffee or a soft drink and giveaway them a coupon to avail at any particular food chain within the mall.
What do you say? Is there any need to do more on the day of launch? Any thing interesting or different to stand out in the mall?
###
Jay’s Answer: As I see it, there are 2 things you want to do:
1) Get people who are at the mall to visit your store, and
2) Get people who aren’t at the mall to your store
For (1), I suggest not handing out flyers, nor giving discounts or specials, but instead having a fashion show all day. For example, if you can hire a space in the mall, instead of using mannequins (which are easily ignored), have a raised stage with people doing a small fashion show (like a catwalk). Ensure you have a number of your friends around, and have them sit/stand around the stage. Nothing attracts attention like other people already watching something. The cup of tea, etc. is fine to do year-round, if that’s the sort of business you’ll be running – come shop, sit, stay.
For (2) that’s where you’d want to use flyers. But perhaps better, is to offer a special invitation for people who are at the mall to return another day and bring a friend. Perhaps food & a special (private) show for them. Or a series of shows, around different themes (by age, by special occasion etc.)
I have a business of bakery ingredients trading and have been doing this full-time and part-time for the past ten years. Recently I have decided to do this full time and get more serious with it. My problem is sales generation: how can I assure adequate sales each month to surpass my break-even point? Right now I’m the only sales agent, and I have one helper. Is it wise for me to train an inexperienced agent regarding the details of the product so he can start selling? He is very willing to learn the ropes of the trade and wants to start selling next week.
###
Jay’s Answer: You need to develop a large enough client base so that you’re assured sufficient sales in any one month. Ideally, you create an ongoing relationship with your clients so that they get the benefit of your services on a regular basis (think “automatic”) without you having to sell them. Otherwise, you need to continue to enlarge your prospective client base.
Unless you can create a sales system that basically runs itself, you’re limited by how much you can do each month. How many calls? How many emails? Would having another person around who knew as much as you did about selling be valuable to your business? How much? Would you feel comfortable entrusting someone else with your client calls?
If you haven’t already, I suggest you read “The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It” (Michael Gerber). It describes a bit of the situation you’re in and suggestions for transforming your sales job into a full-blown business.
We need a tag line for a infant and kids wear brand that is being launched. The imagery and primary positioning of the brand is to celebrate ” Sprout” and a New Beginning.
###
Jay’s Answer:
We have formed a new company called FinTech LLC. FinTech’s core business practice and principal goal is “BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS”. Our Delivery Team and Recruiting staff is the best in the business. I would like to get some taglines surrounding People, Opportunities, Relationships. We provide consulting services (staff augmentation) to our clients who are mostly financial services clients. they are located the tristate area. We are building relations with the clients as well as our recruiting team is building relations with the candidates. To be honest – we are a startup so we need them.
###
Jay’s Answer: Since your business name doesn’t give an accurate clue of what you do for who, it’s up to your tagline to clarify. “People, Opportunities, Relationships” may mean something to you, but to a person who doesn’t know anything about your company, reading this won’t help them better understand your business.
I’d strongly suggest keeping the tagline simple, something like:
Providing Expert Financial Staff Augmentation -or-
Tristate’s Financial Staffing Experts
I am in the process of developing a Data Management and Research Company in London, UK. The company would provide services such as transferring data from forms, questionnaires, vouchers etc to computer, analyse data, present statistical data in a more meaning full form such as in a spread sheet or in the form of graphs and charts, take care of accounting and finance jobs that prove too costly if done in-house like filing of VAT returns etc, doing desk research for clients, summarizing currently available research to make it meaningful and useful for clients and bespoke research .
I want to approach other companies which would include larger research companies like TNS, KPMG etc. And companies in other sectors as well like EDF Energy, Shell etc . I am a bit nervous about cold calling and what my pitch should be. How to introduce myself and my services?
###
Jay’s Answer: Instead of trying to cold call everyone, study one company well. Understand how they handle the task you’re looking to do for them. How can you improve their system in ways they can’t? Be able to answer how/why they should entrust their data to you, and what the ROI of working with you is. Until you’ve developed case studies for similar organizations, you’re likely to not get the welcome you’re hoping for.
Is it right to pay extra incentive for the salesmen when I launch new item?
###
Jay’s Answer: Why would you need extra incentive for salespeople to push your product? If your product solves a need better than anything else, then your product should sell itself. If your product requires more effort to sell, then additional compensation may be required by the salespeople. However, the practice varies from company-to-company.
Hello, I’ve been living in the USA for a while and I was wondering how could I work translating ads. My native language is Portuguese.
###
Jay’s Answer: You have 2 basic choices: work/freelance for an agency or start your own business.
If you’re looking to try it on your own, look at businesses that are already (or are hoping to be) in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, or São Tomé and Príncipe (countries whose official language is Portuguese). Furthermore, take a look at websites for these businesses – do they have a well-translated web site for English? If not, that can be one of your offerings.
We are a group of recent Hotel & Restuarant Management graduates (there are 6 of us) who have a strong culinary background and are in the process of starting a catering company. As a niche we are going to focus on children and pre-teen parties and events, but we are also going to do other events (baby showers, bridal showers, etc). We are going to be located in the DC/PG County area. We are focusing on the food component not the party experience.
###
Jay’s Answer: The average children’s and pre-teen party probably isn’t going to hire a company to prepare food, unless you’re focused on a specific niche (whether that be food allergies, foodies, etc).
Perhaps you can tell the story of who’s going to need you, when, why they couldn’t create the food themselves, how much they’d pay for your services, etc.
