I need help coming up with a short spring-themed promotional tagline for a frozen yogurt store. It is a quick turnaround ad and I have total brain freeze (no pun intended :) The frozen yogurt store considers themselves to be a “fun and healthy” alternative to traditional ice cream and other treat options. It’s a new store (~4 months), following the trend of self-serve frozen yogurt stores that are cropping up everywhere. They are attempting to differentiate themselves by playing up the health benefits of yogurt (live & active cultures, low fat/ no fat, non-dairy options), while maintaining a fun, family friendly atmosphere. Bright colors, modern furnishings, a gazillion flavor and topping options (I’m exaggerating, of course, but it’s a lot), quirky/ punchy little sayings (the name is “Yogurtz”, so they like to use “Yo” instead of “You”, and use a “z” in place of an “s” … like: “Treat Yo-self”)

They target young families & professionals in an upscale suburb. (Not a super specific target, and maybe that’s causing my brain freeze?) “Promotion” maybe is too strong of a word, they run ads in several local coupon publications and are in need of some brief headlines for the spring season – a recent ad read “Escape the winter blues” (I know, not top of the line copy writing, but they also have a bad habit of requesting ads two days before they are due).

Jay’s Answer:  Since your company name gives no clue what you offer (or to who), your tagline needs to do all this work. Specifically, who do you plan to offer your services to? Where are they located? Why would they hire you (ignore that you’re quick, different, simple) – what makes you better than the competition? How can you prove it? Are you selling shrink-wrap software? Custom software?

Most of what you list are technology “menu items/features” (Java, .Net, etc.). Your prospective clients aren’t initially thinking this way – they’re looking for help to solve specific problems. For example, you’re the best at developing restaurant software or iPad apps for small businesses.

While “any business which requires assistance in IT development” sounds great, it doesn’t show that you can help them better than any other business that provides such services.

Nonprofit ALearn.org has annual fundraiser event targeting companies, organizations and individuals to become sponsors so we can fund free math acceleration programs (offered through school districts) as catalyst to under-served students to optimize their skills to complete high school, with ultimate goal to enter college. Math skills have been identified as key gatekeeper in preventing these students in completing high school and in college-readiness. The Issue and Opportunity: Low income and minority students have the lowest high school graduation rates in Santa Clara County, with less than 70% of Latino students graduating from high school. Traditional education is not providing the support and resources that low income, immigrant English Language Learner students need to complete high school and go on to succeed in college. With educational budget cuts in California, many of our school districts do not offer the full A to G curriculum to support these students. I am working on a new business in the wedding industry and I am completely stuck. The idea is to have virtual trade shows that educate wedding industry entrepreneurs about the business side of weddings.
